They are always the victim

Projecting blame onto others also allows the narcissist to play the victim.

Vulnerable or covert narcissists are deeply insecure and hide a lot of shame,

and they prefer to play the role of a victim in the narrative of their life.

They strongly deny their mistakes and poor behaviors, projecting them onto others.

And they are masters at twisting the truth in a way that makes the narcissist appear as the victim,

and the true victim is seen to be the cause, the problem or the villain.

Playing the victim gives the narcissist supply.

They love the attention they receive by appearing to be the good guy caught up in someone else’s incompetence.

And they also seek to gain other people’s sympathy as supply.

They like others to believe that they have it harder than anyone else in life.

That everyone is always out to get them, and that they deserve so much more from life.

Sadly, the narcissist gaslights themselves to truly believe this,

that is why they act so entitled to take what ever they want through intimidation and manipulation at the expense of harming others.

They do not care for other people’s victimhood or hardships.

Narcissists feel threatened and jealous when sympathy and attention is given to others.

They will never care for someone else’s needs,

and will sadly take from someone that has far less than them if it benefits the narcissist to improve or maintain their false image.

The narcissist is a true bully disguised as a victim.

Playing the hero

Another favorite character the narcissist loves to play in life is the ‘hero’.

If they are not seen as the victim in life, then they want to be seen as the hero,

the reason that situations or people are fixed, resolved or saved.

They will project their mistakes or poor behaviors onto others,

and twist the truth so they appear to be the smart, caring and heroic individual.

When in reality, they are the complete opposite.

Narcissists feel extremely threatened when others have the positive characteristics in their personality that the narc wishes to possess.

By mimicking a strong, capable and heroic being, it feeds their false ego.

They want others to praise and validate their false heroism, to idealize them and to fear their perceived strength.

They are so envious of others that genuinely hold these true traits,

that the strong genuine people often become the target of their projections.

Narcissists are the perfect masters of disowning any wicked traits that does not fit in with their idealized self-image.

And projection is the way they achieve this.

They will never be able to see themselves as the true villains that they are.

And any exposure of the truth would cause them a great narcissistic injury.
